Financial Planning for Tech Professionals With Company Stock

You may know what your company stock is worth. The harder question is what it needs to do for you. We help current and former tech professionals connect equity compensation, cash needs, investments, and the decisions ahead.

Free intro: 20 minutes to discuss your situation and whether we're a fit. No financial advice or recommendations on this call. Booking opens in a new tab.

How We Help

Financial planning defines what your resources need to do. Investment management addresses how your portfolio supports that plan.

Financial Strategy and Planning

Build a financial strategy around your household, rather than treating each account or stock decision in isolation.

  • Review company stock, future compensation, cash needs, and other assets.
  • Compare choices around career changes, home purchases, family goals, and giving.
  • Identify priorities, next steps, and questions to coordinate with your CPA, attorney, or lender.

The planning scope depends on the decisions you face and the work we agree to undertake.

In-House Investment Management

Manage investments with a purpose for the money and a clear view of the company stock you hold.

  • Develop an investment approach around your goals, time horizon, and risk considerations.
  • Evaluate overlapping exposure between company stock and other holdings.
  • Manage the agreed portfolio as part of your broader financial strategy.

Which accounts we manage, the responsibilities involved, and fees are agreed before work begins.

The Decisions We Help You Work Through

A plan should account for what matters outside the portfolio, too.

Company Stock and Future Vests

Evaluate vested shares, RSUs, stock options, ESPP holdings, and future awards. We do not begin with a blanket instruction to sell.

Taxes and Sale Timing

Review withholding, cost basis, tax lots, and timing tradeoffs alongside concentration and cash needs. Coordinate tax questions with your CPA.

Cash Runway and Home Financing

Estimate the resources needed for a career break, job change, or home purchase. Where relevant, compare financing alternatives, including asset-based approaches, lender requirements, costs, and collateral risks.

Giving and Transferring Stock

Explore how stock gifts or charitable contributions could fit your goals, with ownership, tax, and legal questions coordinated with the appropriate professionals.

What Happens After a Sale

Define what the proceeds need to do before deciding to sell: fund a goal, build cash reserves, or invest elsewhere. Consider those choices alongside any company stock you retain.

What Working Together Looks Like

Start with an introduction. Decide on further work once you understand the next step.

Free Intro Call

A 20-minute conversation about your situation and fit. No financial advice or recommendations are provided.

Tech Equity Review Session — $195

If we're a fit, a 30-minute session discusses the strategy your situation may require. We discuss the roadmap together, and you receive it in writing after the session.

Further Work, If Appropriate

We discuss planning, investment management, or both. Scope, fees, and responsibilities are agreed separately before that work begins. There is no obligation to continue.

Questions Before You Start

Is there an asset minimum?

We do not currently have an asset minimum. Our company-stock work is especially relevant when employer equity materially affects your financial choices. Fit depends on your needs and the work required.

Do you only work with people in technology?

Current and former tech professionals are a primary focus. We also work with individuals and families outside technology when their needs and our services are a fit.

Do I need to sell my company stock?

There is no predetermined answer. We evaluate holding or reducing stock alongside future compensation, taxes, cash needs, your other investments, and your goals.

Must I complete the stress test first?

No. The educational tool is optional. You can book a free introduction without completing it.

Do you provide tax or legal advice?

369 Financial does not provide tax or legal advice. We consider tax-related questions within financial planning and can coordinate with your tax and legal professionals.
